A while back, we attended opening night of an exceedingly bizarre film/performance piece/art installation in Paris. I had been connected to the film’s director, Ilya Khrzhanovsky, through a friend. The project in its entirety was called Dau. The film itself ran for 130 hours and required the creation of a fully functioning town from the foundations up in Kharkiv, Ukraine, the hiring of actors to populate this town for three years, the purchasing of food and water and all necessities to keep the townspeople going, the hiring and support of Ilya, the renting of two famous theaters in the heart of Paris, and so on.
